Chrysler's Barracuda and Challenger may have arrived late at the pony car party, but they made up for lost time in a hurry. After belting back a couple of big blocks and a Hemi they were ready to rumble and quickly dispatched the guests from Dearborn and Detroit in a cloud of smoking rubber. Despite the requisite long-nose short-deck profile, the original 1964-66 Barracuda was anything but a muscle car. Plymouth remedied that problem in 1967 when the car was restyled and the engine bay widened sufficiently to accept a big-block V-8. For 1970, Chrysler Corporation got serious with Plymouth introducing a completely new Barracuda and Dodge debuting its sibling, the Challenger.
